Mushroom weekend at Meany

Meany Lodge and thePacific Northwest Mycological Society present the annual Mushroom Weekend October 26, 27 and 28, 2007. Mushroom weekend is open to both Mountaineer members and non-members at the same GREAT price. There are two great ways to enjoy this year's Mushroom Weekend.

Option 1

Friday night October 26, through Sunday afternoon October 28. Cost is $100.00, and sign up limit 30 (Register as “Full Weekend”)

Join us at Meany 7 PM Friday night for a Mushroom identification seminar, and mushroom hors d'oeuvre tasting. At this seminar you will receive a Mushroom Identification Field Guide and CD of examples of mushrooms which you may find the next day. The seminar will be lead by Larry Baxter, long time PSMS member and mushroom identifier. The evening will end with a dessert buffet. Get up Saturday morning to a great Meany breakfast, pack a sack lunch and head out for a day of mushroom hunting with our team of expert guides. Return to Meany Saturday afternoon to join the rest of the weekend’s activities.


Option 2

Saturday morning October 27, through Sunday afternoon October 28. Cost is $65, and sign up limit 40 (Register as Saturday 10/27)

Meet Saturday morning at 9:30 AM at the Crystal Springs campground. There you will meet your guides, break into collecting groups and head for the woods. Begin gathering back at Meany around 3 PM. At the lodge we’ll have sorting and display tables set up to appreciate the treasures of the forest. Bring a sack lunch.

While the mushrooms are being sorted, your taste buds will be tempted by a hot mulled punch, canapés, hors d'oeuvres featuring local mushrooms collected throughout the year followed by a sumptuous gourmet dinner and dessert. We’ll have an evening presentation on Northwest mushroom collecting and identification.

Sunday we’ll enjoy a Meany breakfast, featuring local mushrooms. After breakfast we will collect locally, review the display, have a seminar on "Don't eat the mushroom!" and a seminar on mushroom preservation, preparation and cooking. We will enjoy the fruits of our efforts at lunch before we head back to town.
