Mushroom weekend at Meany

Meany Lodge and thePacific Northwest Mycological Society proudly and with anticipation, present the annual Meany Mushroom Weekend October 24^th through the 26^th, 2008. This event is open to both Mountaineer members and non-members at the same GREAT price. And remember it sells out quickly so sign up ASAP at Mushroom signup.

Both Mushroom weekend options are SOLD OUT for 2008.

You can experience this culinary event in one of two great ways.

Option 1:
Friday night October 24^th through Sunday afternoon October 26^th
Cost: $115, sign up Limit to 30.

Join us at Meany 7 PM Friday night for a Mushroom identification seminar, mushroom hors d'oeuvre tasting. At this seminar you will receive a Mushroom Identification Field Guide and CD of examples of mushrooms which you may find the next day. The seminar will be lead by Larry Baxter, long time PSMS (Puget Sound Mycological Society) member and mushroom identifier. The evening will end with a dessert buffet.

Get up Saturday morning to a great Meany breakfast, pack a sack lunch and head out to meet the Saturday arrivals for a day of mushroom hunting with our team of expert guides.

Option 2:
Saturday morning October 25^th, through Sunday afternoon October 28^th
Cost: $80, sign up limit to 40.

Gather at Crystal Springs campground, on Saturday at 9:30 AM. Meet your guides. Break into collecting groups and head for the woods.

Both options include:

• After the Saturday mushroom hunt, meet back a meany around 3 PM, and while the mushrooms are being sorted, your taste buds will be tempted by a hot mulled punch, canapes and hors d'oeuvres featuring local mushrooms collected throughout the year.
  
  
• Once mushrooms have been sorted, they will be on display for all to see in the cat barn.
  
  
• At 6 pm you will be served a sumptuous gourmet dinner and dessert.
  
  
• Maggie Rogers featured speaker for many mushroom events will present a Saturday evening program, "The Joys of mushrooming". Maggie has been mushrooming since she found her first chanterelle south of Eugene, Oregon in the mid-sixties. She is cataloger of the Oregon Mycological Society library.
  
  
• Sunday you we'll enjoy a Meany breakfast, featuring local mushrooms. After breakfast we will collect locally, review the display, have a seminar on "Don't eat the mushroom!", make mushroom paper and a final seminar on mushroom preservation, preparation and cooking. We will enjoy the fruits of our efforts at lunch before we head back to town.

• Bring a large container to carry your treasures -- and small wax-paper sandwich bags for individual, small collections.
