During the fall, Meany Lodge becomes a hive of activity. The reasons are:
MOFA classes give members of the Mountaineers and the general public hands-on experience in the assessment and treatment of the injuries most commonly incurred in thePacific Northwest. MOFA classes (intensives) run Friday evening through Sunday afternoon. The addage of some MOFA instructors is "Make the Mistake now and not when you really need to do it !!"
Fall Work parties are a chance for volunteers to help prepare the Meany campus for the
upcoming winter season. Besides the weekend, their are mid-week ones for folks that have time in the
week to help out.
These mid-week work parties are run by a group, lovingly called "The Fossils". They are members of
the Meany committee that are retired, but still give a substantial amount of time to keep things up
and running. These work parties typically focus on projects that take considerable time to complete,
like re-building engines on snow-cats or re-wiring tow systems.
Weekend work parties focus on projects that can be completed in shorter time frames, like painting a
dormitory, stacking fire wood or trimming brush on the ski hills.
All work parties feature the same great food we serve during the winter season, and the crowds are
generally smaller so you can get to know folks better.
Mushroom weekend (which always sells out as soon as it is posted !!) is a joint effort between Meany Lodge and the Nortwest Myological Society. This is a chance not only to learn about mushrooms, but to put that knowledge to use and go pick, and then go EAT. It is an event that must be experienced to be believed.
