Afternoon Program

Every year we feature a special program in the afternoon after the Saturday hike. The program sets the tone for the weekend and adds to the fun. In past years we have featured kite making, Geo-Caching, and dog sled demonstrations. Below are descriptions of past activities.

Dog sled program

Perhaps you have seen the Dog Sled Crossing signs along the road to Meany Lodge. Maybe during a winter trip to Meany you experienced a sled team pulling along a trail. I had a team pass me this past winter while hiking out to Crystal Springs. At Family Hiking Weekend we will have the opportunity to learn more about the sport of dog sledding and the human and canine athletes that take to the snow.

On Saturday, August 2, Michael and Doreen Johnston will bring their dog team to Meany for a special Family Hiking Weekend program. There will be afternoon demonstrations of summer pulling, and an evening presentation about dog sledding.

Contact Brian Thompson and Jennifer Dineen at 425-228-6412 or hiking_coordinator@meanylodge.org for more information and what to bring with you. Complete weekend details are available on the Meany Lodge Web site (www.meanylodge.org) or will be sent via email to those who sign-up.
