2009 Storm

Well I'm sure you are all aware of the closure of Meany the weekend of Jan 10th. The pictures below show the damage the committee found that Saturday and some of the repair work. Hope you enjoy them

Road Washouts and Repairs

This series of pictures show the road and the number of washouts that had to be sloped. By the Jan 24th weekend, Groomer Bob filled in all of them and made the road easier to travel for TomCat, but still not good enough for towing.

Martin Creek

The following pictures are of Martin (Mosquito) Creek damage, note the extent of the damage to the culvert. It is buried in 2 inch crushed rock, that came from under the BNSF RR tracks upstream

Track Damage

The following series of pictures shows the extent of the track damage neat the eastern portal of the BNSF RR Stampede Pass tunnel. The hillside, that is predomintely missing under the tracks, is what ended up in the culvert across Martin (Mosquito) Creek.

Track Repair

With so much earth lost under the tracks (inessence, the hill was washed out) alot of rock was needed. With damage in other track locations, BNSF decided that to take the rock from the surrounding hillside just south of the track.

To get to the hillside, in order to drill, they needed to put in a new road. the first picture shows the road veering right as you come up to the lodge. the next one shows the drilling equipment at the top of the hill and th last on a close-up look at a driller
