Come one, come all! Bring your young, your old, your family and your friends and join us at Meany
Lodge for this year's winter sport season. You will enjoy many days of alpine and cross-country
skiing, snowboarding, great food, great company, relaxation and fun for the family.
With the only grandfathered rope tow in the Pacific Northwest, you travel to the top of the hill
and take the plunge in snowboarding, alpine or back country sking. Meany IS
the center of lift assisted back country skiing. Here you have access to vast tracks
of pristine snow fields, or you can avoid the tow completely and travel through our groomed
cross-country area.
For the beginner we have an unique area including a beginner rope tow, lovingly call "Turtle". One
can get learn and not be intimidated by fast skier. Around Turtle we have various sloping terrain
that you can try and you get proficient on before you tackle the Super Worm or Mach.
For the expert skier or boarder (or those of you who want to become one), the most important words
on this webpage are "lift-assisted back-country skiing". Stop for a second and
consider the implications
- Without skinning up;
- Without a two hour climb for a fifteen minute run;
- Without spending a night in a snow cave;
- Without a mad early-morning rush to the lifts for the fleeting chance at a run on the freshies;
- Without the cost of a helicopter drop-off;
You can spend your weekend skiing a wide variety of intermediate to expert ungroomed slopes.
Steep open slopes:
Top of "the Lane" is 38 degrees, as steep as you will find inbounds anywhere.
Tree skiing:
"Soffreenia Woods", "Railroad Meadows", "Psychopath", "The Nose
" all provide a nice selection of open forested terrain, carefully managed for maximum
ski-ability.
Not quite up to the expert stuff:
"South" may be the only true intermediate ungroomed slope in any established ski area,
giving powder newbies the chance to experience the magic of skiing the deep stuff under the tutelage
of expert instructors who specialize in back-country skiing and boarding.
While our runs are short, the combination of no lift lines and our ridiculously fast tow (called
"Mach" - for good reason) makes for as much skiing as you could ever want. Last year
one of our top skiers skied 30,000 vertical feet in a single day! So after a week of new snow in the
Cascades, come to Meany and spend your weekend carving turn after turn in deep, fresh, unskiied snow
and learn why the Meany efficinado's say
"If you can ski Meany, you can ski anywhere."
"Once you have skied Meany, You will never want to ski anywhere else!!"
The lodge and its sports amenities are available during the week between Christmas and New Years Day
and every weekend thereafter up through mid-March. We have runs at all levels of experience, up to
and including double black diamond. If you don't need any classes, then go for it! But if you need
to brush up, check out the Winter Sports Program (January through March). More information on the
programs and registration links can be found on the
Winter Sports Programs page.

Let's give you an example of a stay at the lodge: you arrive on Saturday morning, via the Tom Cat,
find a comfortable bunk and stow your gear, then go hit the slopes. Now that you have worked up an
appetite, head back to the lodge for lunch. This will the first time you experience the truly
tasty food prepared by our own talented in-house cooking crew. After lunch the Saturday winter
sport program begins. After the scheduled program you can enjoy more winter sports activities.
When you are totally exhausted, return to the lodge, remove your equipment, come upstairs and enjoy
hot drinks and snacks. At the same time you experience the tantelizing aroma of the culinary
feast that is being prepared for dinner. During the pre-dinner time you can relax with friends, read,
or play board/card games. If you are a risky type you can also try to carry on a philosophical
discussion with any one at Meany :-). After all of that; you are ready to enjoy a scrumptious
family dinner. After dinner, the evening entertainment begins and every weekend it is something
different, from just sitting around, to dancing, to skits. By the time you go to bed you have enjoyed a fabulous day.
Sunday morning starts early, with the famous "Hecox hearty breakfast". Then it's off to the slopes for
the Sunday program. After lunch and lodge clean-up, you have one more chance to hit the slopes.
Departure, which is usually around 3:30 pm, is a very exciting time, especially for the newbie
skiers. If the instructors have given their permission, the newbies can ski down to the flat part of
the forest road to wait for the Cat to arrive, then they get to be towed out. If the snow is hard,
the cat will be in 3rd gear and going nearly 20 mph. The skiers always have a great time, tossing
snowballs at each other, knocking snow off overhanging tree limbs or "riding the waves" on the way
out.
The lodge has facilities that would cost a king's ransom at some other ski areas. It accommodates a
total of 97 people in female, male and family hostel-style dorms. There are comfortable men's and
women's restrooms. But most importantly, there are separate shower facilities with a unending
supply of hot water never runs out.
Various overnight and day packages are available. A full listing of prices and registration links
can be found on
Room & Board page.
